How long in advance would you make this? if it is being eaten in the evening would it be too early to make it up mid afternoon?

Ace that would be fine. I have a Tupperware box in the fridge containing fresh fruit salad. I make it up twice a week and it easily lasts me for three days. It's handy if you are trying to cut down, as it is so easy just to be be able to take out a couple of large spoonfuls instead of grabbing a chocolate bar.

Ace, I would make it in the morning as I think the flavours need time.
I always use a tin of fruit in fruit juice ( not syrup) as a base.
If MR K makes it, he uses orange juice and a spoon of honey.

When I make a fruit salad I put it in the fridge and it lasts for several days. Its better the next day. Like SL I like to have a fruit salad already made up in the fridge so I can pick at it rather than something else less healthy.

Definitely in advance Ace, as there is so much prep.
I always pour a little Orange juice on it as it helps keep it fresh, but if you are putting bananas in it, leave them till the last minute
Serve with home made shortbread and cream. Delicious.

Thanks so much everyone. I just wanted to check as I was worried the fruit would go brown. I will put bananas in at the end. Can't believe I have never made one before!!

I always make mine several hours in advance, and I take it out of the fridge an hour or so before we need it.  Although I love bananas, I never put them in fruit salad.
